Levain Bakery

Levain Bakery has quickly risen to be one of our favorite shops in New York City. These cookies are unlike any other - crunchy on the outside, and gooey on the inside. This bakery has three locations all over the Upper West Side, and the lines are constantly out the door and down the street! Hurry to the location nearest to you, you don't want to miss out on this one!

Magnolia Bakery

Magnolia was a surprise to us, and we have jumped head first into the sweet treats over at this sweet shoppe! Located in the Upper West Side, this bakery specializes in homemade banana pudding and other sweet goodies. The lace curtains that line the windows match it's sweet, timeless feel and heavenly aroma. We love the banana pudding, cupcakes, cake, and muffins best. This bakery is one that should not be missed!

Skaneateles bakery

While this sweet treat shop lies a little bit outside of the NYC limits, it is definitely a must-stop shop if you are in the state of New York. Located in Upstate New York on one of the Fingerlakes, Skaneateles Bakery specializes in glazed cinnamon sugar donuts! They also have delectable cinnamon rolls, blueberry and raspberry muffins, and MORE! Some of the locals also would argue that this sweet shoppe is home to the best coffee in the state of New York. Now THAT is something worth stopping for!

Refreshing, light, and tasty - Peacefood has it down!

Hamilton Bakery

A unique bakery located off of 146th St and Broadway, this is a must-stop for any Hamilton Fans! This quaint coffee shop/cafe/bakery boasts menu items named after famous founding fathers and other characters found in Hamilton the Musical. We personally recommend their nutella-fudge cinnamon rolls - as it is truly life changing!

You can get a waffle with any kind of topping you can imagine - the opportunities are endless. Your stomach will thank you for stopping here.

Look no further than the protein bakery near Union Square! Their treats are also great for any gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan sweet treat fanatics! (The best part - they taste just like any other delicious sweet treat - you can’t even tell that they’ve been made “healthy”!)

Chip NYC

Chip NYC quickly rose to one of our favorite sweet stops in NYC! It rivals Levain Bakery for top cookie in the entire big apple! What a feat! If you find yourself in Chelsea, be sure to check out this cookie! (and for those of you who like strawberry shortcake - you have GOT to try their strawberry shortcake cookie!)

We LOVED this sweet treat, found right in our own backyard! The Pain d’Epices bakery is a perfect stop for those searching for traditional french pastries. Both of the treats we tried were delectable! AND - good news for all of our gluten free / dairy free friends! They are currently renovating their UWS location to be a gluten free/diary free bakery! So check back in Summer 2019 to try more of their delicious treats!

The Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel offers one of the most sophisticated dining options in the city! We went to High Tea at the Plaza and had the opportunity of trying a sample tea cart of all of their delicious sweet treats. It was the perfect choice with our group so that we were able to try all of the different treats The Plaza had to offer!

Schmackary’s

Schmackary’s is perhaps one of the most infamous cookies to be found in all of NYC - especially throughout the Broadway Community! Coined Broadway’s favorite cookie, you can often find many Broadway stars visiting the shop, getting these cookies delivered to their dressing rooms, or on special occasions — working behind the counter to raise money for BCEFA! We loved their pink and green Wicked cookies to celebrate the 15th Anniversary!

Baked by Melissa

This was one of the biggest surprises on our sweet treat adventures. We came in not knowing anything about Baked by Melissa, or even what kind of sweet treats were offered! To our surprise, this sweet shop specializes in mini cupcakes and macaroons! They are the cutest sweet treat we’ve found! (And their Wicked cupcakes for the special anniversary were TERRIFIC!)

Milk Bar

At Milk Bar, there is a life-changing treat that is only available seasonally — the THANKSGIVING Croissant! Let me just tell you — if you are a savory tooth like Sara, this is a sweet treat with your name on it! Jump on down to the Milk Bar bakery to snag one of these during the month of November! (Added plus — this shop specializes in ice cream and other goodies that taste like cereal milk! That’s the milk left that’s soaked up all the goodness of your sugary cereal at the end of the bowl. How fun is that?!)

Bubby’s Pie

We googled “Best Pie in NYC” and on four different cites, this restaurant was consistently listed at the top! We agree! It was delicious and should be a must-stop for any pie lovers out there! (They also have terrific brunch and southern homestyle cooking — know if you try some of their famous traditional home cooking!)

Cupcake Market

Okay y’all — the secret is coming out. We think this is our favorite Cupcake to be found in NYC so far! SO GOOD! Their hours are limited, so be sure to go when they open — the cupcakes go fast! They’re also so fresh and warm if you get there and get them right at store opening — they’re fresh out of the oven, baked that morning! The Cupcake Market also specializes in face cookies, so if you’re into Ruth Bader Ginsburg or Obama’s face on a cookie, this is the place for you! You can also customize a face cookie with your own face or face of a loved one, so mark down that gift idea!

Not quite a sweet treat, but something definitely worth sharing! Sara found this by way of the medical medium. It’s a great way to up your health game, and rid your body of toxins! If you’re interested in hearing more after reading the article linked below, give us a holler because Sara LOVES discussing the positives of Celery Juicing!

Mango Mango

We stumbled into Mango Mango very spontaneously, and are so glad we did! Sometimes it is so great for the soul to try something outside of your comfort zone, and we are so glad we did with this sweet treat place! We couldn’t read the menu, but we ordered a variety plate and loved every bit of it! It was so fresh and refreshing!

They also have great seasonal rotations, so be sure to go back around holidays to see their new options all year long!

Featured on Vlog: Week 35

Serendipity

Just like the movie, Serendipity, this place is straight out of a movie! Serendipity holds the Guinness World Record for the most expensive commercially available Ice Cream Sundae, Hot Dog, and Cheeseburger! WOAH! (the Golden Opulence Sundae is $1,000 and gets ordered about once or twice a month, on average!) We love their famous Frozen Hot Chocolate, which is to die for. But don’t worry, that is not anywhere near $1,000! Samantha also loves their Mac and Cheese - check it out!

Van Leeuwen’s Ice Cream

Van Leeuwen’s has quickly risen to be one of our favorite ice cream shops in the city. They make all our ice cream from scratch in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The Classic scoops are crafted with nothing more than fresh milk and cream, cane sugar, and egg yolks. The Vegan scoops are made with housemade cashew milk, organic coconut milk, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic cane sugar, pure cocoa butter, and organic carob bean. Both recipes result in rich, decadent, naturally perfect ice cream.

Dough Donuts

Dough's menu is carefully curated to bring customers a selection of flavors and textures to satisfy different tastes and cravings. Their doughnuts are made with a brioche-type dough prepared in small batches throughout the day so our customers can always get the freshest doughnuts possible! They offer many different flavors and try to keep our most popular available year round while others rotate and change seasonally. While they are working on bringing lots of new types of doughnuts including cake doughnuts and churros, they invite you to try our deliciously addictive Doughkas as the newest addition to our menu. Inspired by the Babka, twisted yeast loaves of Eastern European Jewish tradition, Doughkas are made with our signature doughnut dough.

Homemade Cinnamon Roll Recipe

This is one of our favorite recipes for homemade cinnamon rolls! What makes this recipe so special you ask? There’s a secret ingredient - after the dough’s second rise, we pour whipping cream over the top of the dough before we bake them, making them even more moist and gooey than any other cinnamon roll recipe!

Four & Twenty Blackbirds

This sweet pie shop was started by two sisters who have a heart for local, fresh, organic ingredients and great baking skills! They bake all of the pies from scratch all day long, and this place is always popping! We cannot recommend this place more highly for all of you pie-lovers out there! They have three locations, be sure to check out the one closest to you!

Flour Shop

Flour Shop’s baker and Flour-ist, Amirah Kassem, is an artist at heart and cake is her medium. But she didn’t learn her skills in culinary school. Instead, Amirah grew up baking and sculpting with her mother in Mexico, where she discovered an appreciation for fine ingredients—and mastered the art of multi-sensory experiences. Today, her food-based installations have been exhibited everywhere from private settings at the Whitney Museum to 64-foot edible hallways at the Brooklyn Museum; while her fondant-free creations have also caught the attention of Vogue, Harper’s BAZAAR, and every fashion party in NYC.

Peter Pan Bakery

Peter Pan Bakery was established more than 62 years ago in the then predominately Polish neighborhood of Greenpoint (and Polski Meat Market still holds court across the street), when the Dodgers still called Brooklyn home. It would be hard to fathom the shop existing anywhere else in the city. It's a neighborhood spot that locals hold dear, a place that new residents go as a rite of passage, and a tasty destination for those not lucky enough to live close by.

Featured on Vlog: Week 45

Billy’s Bakery

The owners met in school about 25 years ago and have been providing delicious moments and treats as our local neighborhood bakery. Each day at Billy’s, everything is still made from scratch. From their (pretty well known) Icebox Cake to our (pretty darn well known) Red Velvet Cupcakes—it’s as real as their grandmothers used to make. For them, that smell when you walk into a real local bakery is almost as important as the taste. And they’re never going to lose that. For Billy's, it's all about real ingredients, authentic recipes, and real people making it happen. Stop by their shops in Chelsea, Tribeca, Upper West Side or the Food Hall at The Plaza Hotel.

Little Pie Company

Since 1985, the Little Pie Company offers “a theater of baking” in a neighborhood joint where bakers are framed by large picture windows, creating a warming, rustic slice of Americana. Locally sourced ingredients go into season-fresh pies, cakes and cookies. Carefully considered fillings made from nature’s ripe bounty are poured into hand-pinched crusts before the tempting treats are placed into small batch steel ovens. Rows of near-to-bursting pies with golden brown crusts rest on cooling racks until they are snatched up to be taken home, consumed on the spot or shipped fresh nationally for next day delivery.

Buttercup Bakery

In August 1999, Jennifer Appel ventured out on her own to open Buttercup Bake Shop. Since its opening, the shop has experienced outstanding success with its old-fashioned American desserts and the inviting ambiance. Buttercup’s classic American desserts continue to be enjoyed by New Yorkers of all kinds, including Martha Stewart, Al Roker, and Senator Hillary Clinton, among others. Buttercup has appeared on The Today Show several times, and featured on MTV, Fox, CNN and more, as well as in the romantic novel A Match Made on Madison by Dee Davis.

Acai Bowl in Central Park from Juice Generation

Juice Generation is New York’s premier juice bar. Independently owned and operated since opening our doors in 1999, thousands of New Yorkers make their way to Juice Generation every day for their fix of signature juices, smoothies, and açaí bowls. They’re part of a growing movement of people who believe, just like we do, that healthy living can be accessible to everyone—and that the key to a sustainable lifestyle is creating good habits that stick.
